Responsibilities

Sailash Patel is vice president of strategic development for Furiex. Mr. Patel leads corporate development and strategic planning functions and drives strategic transactions that accelerate Furiex’s path to innovation and enhancing drug development pipelines. His responsibilities include assessing potential licensing opportunities, coordinating the company’s market research and portfolio planning, as well as fulfilling business forecasting needs. Mr. Patel serves as Furiex’s investor relations contact.

Experience

Mr. Patel has more than 10 years of experience in a commercial setting for pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining Furiex, he headed corporate development at PPD where he was responsible for corporate strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and compound partnering business development. Mr.Patel has supported transactions with an aggregate value of more than $800 million. Within the compound partnering group, he had the same responsibilities he now handles for Furiex.

Mr. Patel joined PPD’s medical communications division in 2001 and worked in operations, finance and strategic planning. Prior to moving to the United States, he co-founded and successfully launched a new venture in the United Kingdom and managed its development into a multibusiness group focused on pharmaceutical distribution and retail pharmacy.

Education

He earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy with honors from University of Nottingham in the U.K. and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His key areas of expertise include pharmaceutical commercialization and corporate finance. Patel is also licensed to practice pharmacy in North Carolina and Florida.
